Newborn Session Information
Newborn sessions should be done within 10 days of birth when possible
Please be sure to schedule your newborn session as soon as possible based on your due date and we will be flexible based on actual delivery. My calendar fills up quickly so I need to reserve your spot as early as possible. Newborn session should happen in the first 10 days of life where possible as babies tend to be more sleepy and cooperative in this time.
IN STUDIO
For the best results we need a warm sleepy baby with a full tummy. Please try to keep your baby awake for an hour or so prior to the session, sometimes a bath can help with this. If you live near my studio please feed your baby right before you leave home -- if you are traveling over an hour please be ready to feed baby when you arrive. Bring baby in to the studio in their car seat and I will get them unbuckled and undressed. Please try to dress your baby in something that is easy to remove since nearly all pictures will be taken in his/her birthday suit! Button, zip up or magnetic sleepers are best and are easiest to remove. Avoid over the head clothing. If you have another child you are brining for a picture please be prepared to have one parent remain with me and one to take the other child to play at the park across the street or for a drive while we do the newborn's individual pictures. The Studio is small but the biggest reason is because other young children tend to be jealous of the attention the newborn is getting and usually they dont understand that we need a very quiet enviroment for our newborn. Please also be ready for a warm room -- if you wear a sweater for your picture with baby do yourself a favor and bring a tshirt to slip into. If you want to have family pictures I suggest either all black shirts -- very simple or white or light color solid shirts with jeans if you like. You can look in my galleries to see examples of both white and black family shots to help you choose. I have a ton of props and ideas but I also welcome any ideas or props you may want to include so don't forget those. Generally speaking outfits will not be used in a newborn session. If you have one you want included please let me know and remember most newborns look akward in clothing until they are bigger to fill them out, plus we run the risk of waking baby while we cloth them. It is great if you can bring a bottle of either breast milk or formula in case baby needs to be fed at the session. This is not required but bottles are typically a bit quicker and sometimes leave baby more satisfied. In addition I highly recommend bringing a pacifier even if your baby doesn't typically take one and if possible Mylicon gas relief drops are a good idea to have handy just in case. The studio is very small so please refrain from bringing additional people and/or excessive stuff where possible -- mom and dad of course are welcome.
Please feel free to email me any other questions you may have. I am looking forward to working with you and your new baby!
